Huawei Launched Mate 10 and Mate 10 Pro with FullView Displays

Last Updated on October 17, 2017 by Rahul Krishnan 4 Comments

We have seen many leaks, renders, and speculations about Huawei’s flagships Mate 10 and Mate 10 Pro. The company has ended all the guessing and launched the devices yesterday (16/10/2017).

Along with Mate 10 and its larger sibling Mate 10 Pro, Huawei also unveiled Porsche Design Mate 10, which basically is a variant of the Pro model itself.

The Huawei Mate 10 sports a 5.9-inch QHD LCD display whereas the Mate 10 Pro has a 6-inch full-HD+ (1080×2160 pixels) OLED screen. Both the devices carry minimal bezels on the top and the bottom with the screen to body ratios of 81.79 and 81.61 percents respectively (iPhone X has 81.36 percent screen to body ratio).

Mate 10 and Mate 10 Pro packs in Huawei’s own HiSilicon Kirin 970 processor, which the company qualifies as the first chipset with a neural-network processing unit. For example, the chipset can recognize the object, which needs to be in focus and thus makes the bokeh mode effective. Huawei calls the whole implementation MobileAI.

The smaller model Mate 10 has 4 GB RAM and 64 GB onboard storage whereas the Mate 10 Pro comes in two variants; 4 GB/ 64 GB and 6 GB/ 128 GB. Only the Mate 10 offers storage expansion (up to 256 GB) via external SD card.

Both the devices have the same camera setup on the back and the front. The rear setup bears a 20-megapixel monochrome sensor coupled with another RGB one of 12 megapixels, which support OIS, BSI CMOS, PDAF, CAF, Laser Autofocus, and Depth Autofocus. Up front, it has an 8 MP sensor for the selfies. The fingerprint scanner finds its position below the rear camera on them.

The dual-SIM phones run on EMUI 8.0 based on Android Oreo 8.0. Although they both have the same 4000 mAh battery, 3.5-mm headphone jack is available only on the smaller model.

As stated earlier, the company also released a Porsche Design Mate 10, which is a special edition variant of the Pro model. Comes in diamond black color, it offers the same specs as that of Mate 10 Pro apart from the 256 GB internal storage.

Huawei has priced Mate 10 at EUR 699 (roughly Rs. 53,400), Mate 10 Pro at EUR 799 (roughly Rs. 61,000), and Porsche Design Mate 10 at EUR 1,395 (roughly Rs. 1,06,600). The smartphone hits the market through its first sales cycle in Australia, China, Egypt, Malaysia, Mexico, New Zealand, Philippines, Saudi Arabia, Singapore, Spain, and the UAE (for Mate 10 Pro, the list includes some selected regions of Africa and Europe as well) by the beginning of November.
