Older checksums
MD5 and SHA-1 still match old checksums. They are a poor choice for a new secret.

The hashes are calculated on this page. An empty box is the hash of an empty string. A space at the end changes every hash.
How to use this hash generator
1. Paste the text into the box. Each hash updates as you type.
2. Copy SHA-256, or the row that matches the checksum you were given.
3. Turn on Uppercase when that checksum is printed in capitals.
Which hash to copy
SHA-256 is the usual checksum for a download or a fingerprint. SHA-512 is the longer one. MD5 and SHA-1 are there so an old checksum still matches. Do not store a password as one of these hashes.
