Saavn is now renamed as JioSaavn after its merger with JioMusic after Reliance Jio’s acquisition

Last Updated on December 5, 2018 by Abhishek Jariwala Leave a Comment

Reliance Jio is the buzzword for a long time in the telecom industry. It is also a fact that Reliance Jio shook the industry on arrival and has continued to do so even after several years of operation. Among the recent development regarding Reliance Jio, we heard that the telecom-giant has acquired the music streaming service, Saavn. Well, this news was published way back in March when Akash Ambani signed the merger agreement of Saavn with JioMusic. It now seems that the merger and acquisition have finally been completed because Saavn has now been renamed as JioSaavn.

How is JioSaavn different from Saavn?

Well, there is no major difference if you were a Saavn user. This is because the app, as well as website, have almost remained unchanged. We say almost because there are small changes made to the Android app and the website. The first change is that the Saavn logo has now been changed to JioSaavn. This logo can also be noticed in the screengrab of JioSaavn’s website we have attached above.

Another difference is that the domain name of JioSaavn’s website is also changed now. Earlier, users typed Saavn.com to visit the Saavn website. Now, if you type Saavn.com, you will automatically be redirected to JioSaavn.com. The major difference you will notice can be found on the JioMusic app. Now that the streaming service from Jio has been merged with Saavn, it has been totally rebranded.

You will see a totally changed UI on updating the JioMusic to its latest version which is now named as JioSaavn. However, if you were a Saavn user too, you will not notice a big difference as both Saavn and JioSaavn’s UI are same. As for the latest version of JioMusic (now JioSaavn), it is 79MB in size on iOS and app is compatible on iOS 8.0 and above. Apart from that, there are benefits for Jio prepaid and postpaid users on JioSaavn too.

For starters, all the Jio postpaid and prepaid SIM Cardholders will get 90-day free trial of Saavn Pro. Saavn Pro is an ad-free version of the regular Saavn app. Other benefits of Saavn Pro include the highest quality music streaming and unlimited offline downloads inside the app. Currently, the JioMusic Android app has not been revamped but it is expected to be updated soon with a whole new user interface. For the record, Reliance Jio claims that there are 45 million tracks available on their platform including some tracks which are JioSaavn-exclusive.
