i asked free minitool to extend 1st partiton after deleting 2nd partition on mbr disk. 3rd partition is extended, 5 linux 6 ntfs. after 25 mins doing this simple thing – had long ago finished files check, partitioning, etc and was at 2nd display of ‘updating system’. it appeared doing nothing. eventually rebooted, system loaded but is corrupt. testdisk shows overlap on 1 and 2 parts, where part 2 should now be extended. a testdisk scan shows absurd geometry and incorrect file systems. i will have to patch primary part table by hand, guessing at part 1 length. even ms would have been able to extend this without the drama and wasted time.
