ChatGPT to Soon Remember Past Conversations: OpenAI’s Latest Development

Chandan Pandit • Updated February 19, 2024 • 3 min read • Leave a Comment

The world of AI and Chatbots is growing at a very rapid pace. ChatGPT is one of the prime examples of it. The whole OpenAI team is leading in terms of artificial intelligence and innovations. The recently released ChatGPT v4 can do numerous different tasks apart from simple chat-based conversations such as creating images, generating codes, analysing files, etc.

Now, the team is making further improvements to the ChatGPT. Yes, you heard it right. It is getting more advanced. In a recent announcement, the OpenAI team revealed that they are working on a function that lets ChatGPT remember your past conversations.

How does the new feature in ChatGPT will benefit its users?

The OpenAI team will release a new update to the chatbot this week which will include a long-term memory retain feature. It would allow the ChatGPT to retain information and past conversations you had with it. This will help the user in very different ways possible. If you ask any question or information, it would be able to execute the resources from past information which solves the hassle of repeating the information or data again and again.

In the official announcement, the team said, “The new memory upgrade will make future conversations more helpful and save users the trouble of repeating information in every new conversation.”

Both free and paid users would be able to access this feature. Also, as of now, the update is being rolled out in phases which means not everyone will get access to it for now. More and more users are getting access to the feature. If no major bugs or issues are found, then a broader rollout will happen in the coming days.

With this feature, the ChatGPT would be able to secure certain important information from your conversations. Like for example, if you somewhere mentioned that your body weight is 58KGs then GPT will keep this information in the database, and in the future if you ask any question related to it, it will be able to answer based on the past data.

In this case, if you ask the bot to suggest some healthy exercise to do then it will use your previously entered information to give you more tailored and accurate results.

However, one big issue with this feature is the privacy of the user. For this, the team says that the user can clear the data and chats anytime they want without going through any hassles. The user will have complete control over their data.
