One of the popular OTT platforms, Amazon Prime has finally added user profile features. The feature became a standard for streaming platforms for a long time. The user profile option is rolling out in the mobile and set-top box version of the Prime video app starting today.

The User profile feature is already available in other OTT platforms such as Netflix, Hulu, and Disney+. Amazon doesn’t want itself to lack anywhere in terms of features by its competitors. So, the company has finally decided to add a user profile feature for everyone.

What are Users Profiles in Amazon Prime

The new feature allows users to share a Prime subscription account and allow users to maintain separate watch history, watchlist, and personalized recommendations. The profile will also help users to track their own viewing progress.

Prime users can create up to 6 profiles. It also has a Kids profile, which will only contain age-appropriate content aimed at users below age 12. In Kids profile, the search and search results will also be filtered, and will only show kids titles. Further, Kids profile users won’t be able to make any purchase.

However, the kid’s profile in the mobile app will allow users to access downloaded videos. Amazon didn’t want to restrict access to downloads because when the device is offline it is impossible to switch profiles.

In addition, users can also lock their profiles by setting a pin code to maintain privacy. Users can also restrict kids from making purchases from an adult profile by enabling purchase restrictions. Users can setup up a PIN, which will be asked before every purchase under Prime Video setting.
