Xiaomi has launched a new smartphone in its Redmi lineup in India. This new Redmi smartphone is the Redmi Note 7S, an upgraded version of Redmi Note 7. To recall, Xiaomi launched the Redmi Note 7 series in India with Redmi Note 7 and Note 7 Pro. As the name suggests, Redmi Note 7 Pro was the premium smartphone from Xiaomi in this series.

Xiaomi has now upgraded the Redmi Note 7 as well with this Redmi Note 7S. It can also be said that Redmi Note 7S is the Redmi Note 7 which is available in China. The Redmi Note 7S from Xiaomi comes with a 48MP primary camera. It is priced in India at a starting point of Rs. 10,999

We should make it clear right away that there is only one difference between Redmi Note 7 and Note 7S, its camera. Apart from that, there is no difference at all between the two smartphones.

Redmi Note 7 was launched in India with a 12MP primary camera. However, Redmi Note 7S comes with a 48MP primary camera along with pixel binning technology

With Pixel Binning technology, the images you get are still 12MP in size. But the sensor supports 4-in-1 super pixel technology so the four 12MP images are combined to form a 48MP image. This is the same technique which is used in the Redmi Note 7 Pro. However, the difference between Redmi Note 7S and Redmi Note 7 Pro is the type of sensors used.

While the Redmi Note 7 Pro has a Sony IMX 586 sensor which supports 48MP cameras, Redmi Note 7S doesn’t. The Redmi Note 7S has a Samsung GM1 sensor which is present in China’s Redmi Note 7. However, that does not imply that one of the sensors is superior to others.

The Redmi Note 7S still runs on Snapdragon 660 processor same as the Redmi Note 7 in India. So basically, you will have to choose between Redmi Note 7 and Note 7S just for the camera.

While the Redmi Note 7 has slightly weaker 12MP+2MP camera setup, it comes at Rs. 9999. On the other hand, Redmi Note 7S has 48MP+5MP setup but you have a pay Rs. 1000 more for that variant.

Though Xiaomi has given choice to the users, we feel that Redmi Note 7 will slowly be phased out in favor of the Redmi Note 7S.
