The company doesn’t do frequent flagship releases. They do it once in a year. For the same reason, every gadget enthusiast was looking forward to what they were up to. At the event, they have unveiled three editions of the smartphone; Mi 8, Mi 8 Explorer Edition, and Mi 8 SE.

When it comes to the specifications, Mi 8 sports a full HD+ Super AMOLED display with a notch on top. The screen boasts 88.5% screen to body ratio. Xiaomi has made the body out of glass and metal and given a rounded design as well.

Inside the notch, the company has packed in some series innards including a 20 MP camera, the earpiece, proximity sensor, infrared lighting, and infrared lens. The last two provides us with the Face Unlock feature similar to that of the latest iteration of iPhone.

Under the hood, you will get a Qualcomm Snapdragon 845 SoC, which they tuned to have the best AnTuTu benchmark score (above 3 lakh). Moreover, it has up to 8 GB RAM and 256 GB internal storage.

We have understood 2018 is the year of AI cameras. Xiaomi did justice to the statement. And, they have put a dual 12 MP sensors on the rear with 4-axis optical image stabilization, and AI-powered portrait mode. Similar to what Huawei did with P20 Pro, Mi 8 detects the scene and fine-tune the colors.

The 20 MP camera up front is capable of capturing portraits and offers AI beautify mode as well.

The Explorer edition features an under-screen fingerprint scanner and 3D emojis. You can only grab it in a single version; 8 GB/ 128 GB.

The regular Mi 8 comes in three variants; 6 GB/64 GB, 6 GB/128 GB, and 6 GB/256 GB.

Mi 8 SE on the other hand, has the brand-new Snapdragon 710 under the hood. The display measures 5.8-inch with 2.5D glass on top of it. It has a 12MP+ 5MP dual setup on the back and a 20 MP camera for selfies.

As for the pricing, the regular Mi 8 starts from CNY 2699 (roughly Rs 28,000). For the high-end variant, you have to shell out CNY 2,999 (roughly Rs 31,000). For Mi 8 Explorer Edition, the price is CNY 3,799 (Rs 40,000).
