The Nokia X and Nokia XL were Nokia’s first attempt at releasing Smartphones powered by the Android operating system instead of Microsoft’s Windows for Phone operating system. Even though both these Smartphones were not the best Android Smartphones out there for the price they were sold for, the concept of Nokia bringing out Smartphones powered by Google’s Android operating system was largely appreciated.

However, as later Microsoft bought Nokia, the hopes of receiving future Android updates for the Nokia X and Nokia XL was doomed. But if you still own a Nokia X or Nokia XL Android Smartphone and wishes to upgrade your device to the latest Android 5.1 Lollipop software, then you are not completely out of luck. As you can still root your Nokia X or Nokia XL Android Smartphone and then flash a custom ROM running on Android 5.1 Lollipop after installing a custom recovery.
